The Centre for Scholarly Editing and Document Studies

The Centre for Scholarly Editing and Document Studies (Centrum voor Teksteditie en Bronnenstudie-CTB) is the research centre of the Royal Academy of Dutch Language and Literature (KANTL). The research focuses on scholarly editing, and the study of literary, intellectual and language source documents in Flanders. Special attention goes to the advanced use of ICT in research. The 5 main aims of the centre are:

1. Develop and realize projects which has the Flemish literary and intellectual heritage as its subject.
2. The preparation and publication of scholarly literary and documentary editions.
3. The preparation and realization of 'products' which enhance the visibility of Flemish literary, musical, and documentary heritage: e.g. publications, lectures, talks, exhibitions, performances, catalogues, thesauri, radio- and television broadcasts, etc.
4. Study the ways in which modern ICT can further the literary, philological, and linguistic research of the Centre.
5. Contribute to the national and international debate on the above sketched topics, disciplines, and fields, and advise the government on these matters.

To realize these aims, the CTB co-operates with universities, conservatories, institutions for further education, research centres, archives, libraries, repositories, publishers and several initiatives and institutions both in Belgium and abroad, amongst which the Flemish Fund for Literature (Vlaams Fonds voor de Letteren).
